Terry L Goedel has had an incredible year performing and promoting Native hoop dancing across the country. From competitions to cultural celebrations, Terry’s performances have inspired audiences and honored Native traditions. Here is a detailed look back at Terry’s 2024 journey in hoop dance.
January - March: Kicking Off the Year with Milestones
January 19 - Terry began the year by celebrating Arvilla Cook’s 90th birthday in Orem, Utah. This heartfelt performance set a meaningful tone for the year.
February 17-18 - Terry competed at the Heard Hoop Dance Competition, earning an impressive 2nd place in the Senior Category. This annual competition is a highlight for hoop dancers, showcasing the best talent in the world. Its so amazing to go and watch dancers from all over the world come and compete. (Side note Terry has won first place in this competition 8 times) This trip was especially fun because Tacoma Campbell, Terry's oldest Grandchild competed on her own for the first time. She also found out the day before that she got into Brigham Young University. She was so excited and we are all so proud of her!
March 1-2 - At Rootstech in Salt Lake City, Terry performed with Joe Losik, Melia Losik, Cami Losik, and Gabbs Green. This Conference was so amazing! It was all about blending genealogy and culture.

March 9 - Terry performed at the Phoenix Convention Center with Tara Kingi and Michael Goedel, highlighting cultural connections in a large convention setting.
March 28 - Ogden School District's LEAP program saw Terry teaming up with Melia, Cami, and Gabbs to inspire youth through the power of dance.
April - June: Spring Celebrations and Cultural Showcases
April 20, 21, 27, 28 and May 4, 5 - Terry performed at the Ramona Pageant, one of the longest-running outdoor plays in the United States, adding cultural depth to this historical reenactment.
May 4-5 - At the Pala Cupa Days Celebration, Terry honored Native heritage in a festival of storytelling and dance.
May 9-10 - Collaborating with Eric Hernandez, Terry supported the Tutu Foundation, promoting cultural awareness and education.
June 3 - Traveling to Boston, Massachusetts, Terry performed alongside Michael Goedel, expanding his reach to the East Coast.
June 8-9 - The Autry Museum hosted Terry and Michael for a series of performances blending tradition and contemporary interpretations of hoop dance.
*Terry's has a great ability to combine performance with cultural education. From historical festivals to museums, his work brought Native traditions to life for new audiences.
July - September: Summer Highlights and National Recognition
July 6 - Terry joined Eric Hernandez at the Miss Lumbee Pageant, showcasing Native beauty and talent while promoting cultural pride.

July 20 - The day started with a Hoop Dance Competition hosted by American Indian Services at Thanksgiving Point. Erin Campbell, Tara Kingi & Cante Kingi also competed. (See Images Below)
July 20 - TLater that day Terry performed with his daughters Erin Campbell and Tara Kingi at This is the Place Heritage Park for a huge Pioneer Day celebrations alongside the Tonga Sisters, Junior Maile, the Bonner Family, and many more!
July 24 - Cedar City hosted Terry, Erin & Tara for the Pioneer Day Legacy Program featuring the Osmonds, tying tradition with contemporary performances.
July 31 - Terry was featured in filming with PBS for the Utah GMAA Award Event.
August 16 - Terry performed at Concerts in the Park at Brigham Young Historic Park, engaging the community through music and dance.
August 31 - The University of Arizona hosted Terry for a pregame performance, blending sports and culture for a memorable showcase. (Pictures Below)
September 4 - On September 4, Terry received the prestigious Utah Governor’s Arts Award (GMAA), dancing alongside Tara, Michael, and Eric. He was deeply honored to receive this recognition.

September - Red Butte Gardens hosted its first Intermountain Hoop Dance Competition, with Terry serving as an Event Advisor.
September 22 - Terry contributed to the short film "Courage" with Director Eric Hernandez, combining Native American Hoop dance with cinematic storytelling. Its going to be a hit. Stay tuned to find out more.
October - December: Closing the Year with Film, Music, and Education
October 23 - Terry recorded music for the short film "Courage" with Abe Thomas, bringing rhythm and emotion to cinematic storytelling.
October 24 - Terry presented at the Mesa Temple Visitors Center alongside Michael, sharing cultural insights through dance. He always loves seeing his Grandkids in Arizona!
November 2 - Terry joined Michael, Eric Hernandez, and Sage Romero at the Petroglyph Celebration in Ridgecrest, California, blending dance and history.

November 10 - Terry filmed with the Heard Museum for a Hoop Dance Contest video alongside ShanDien LaRance, promoting future generations of performers.

November 14 - A Dreamworks presentation in Glendale, California, featured Terry and Michael introducing hoop dance to new audiences.
November 21 - The Tamastslikt Cultural Museum in Pendleton, Oregon, hosted Terry, Tara, and Cante for a presentation blending history and performance.

December - Terry wrapped up the year with a Dr. Foster presentation in Salt Lake City, capping a year of performances with an educational focus.
